Woman at the Well

Consider how Jesus loves you.

I cannot endorse the organization who seems to have produced this. On their site is an endorsement of “spiritual formation” which I consider a great deception. But this presentation is something I want to offer. May the Lord sort out His gospel from among the Babel of jive promoted by professing Christians. Emergent Church

Give an Example of Immodest Dress

If low cut tops that reveal breasts and cleavage is no longer considered immodest dress by professing Christian women, then what WOULD be considered immodest dress?

Can anyone give an example?

Which is Easier to Say?

“Your sins are forgiven” or “Rise up and walk”?

“So He got into a boat, crossed over, and came to His own city. Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.” And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, “This Man blasphemes!” But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” And he arose and departed to his house. Now when the multitudes saw it, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such power to men.”  Matthew 9:1-8

Which is easier to say? Your sins are forgiven or rise up and walk? “But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins” Rise up and walk.

Both Paul and James teach that, “Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness.”

Both Paul and James teach that true saving faith results in a life of faith, demonstrating to all that someone is truly born again.

When we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and are truly born again, Jesus tells us, “Your sins are forgiven, now rise up and walk.” Walk a life of faith!

Jesus helps us to live a life of faith that demonstrates we are truly born again.

Let’s humble our hearts and talk to the Lord about that right now.

Jesus, thank you for forgiving our sins. Help us to forgive each other.

Jesus, thank you for filling us with your Holy Spirit. Help us to walk a life of faith together as your Bride.

Voice of the Martyrs and Catholicism

“From a Lighthouse Trails reader (who spent years as a
missionary in Latin America) who sent the following letter to Tom White of Voice
of the Martyrs and gave us permission to post this. We do so as we share this
reader’s concern over the direction that VOM appears to be taking:

“Dear Dr. White:

“Enclosed is a copy of a VOM prayer card for the country of Colombia.  The data on the back states: “Christian 95.45%.”  All I can say to this, is “You’ve got to be kidding!”  Even the USA can’t boast of such a high percentage of Christians!  For me, the definition of
Christian is a person who believes that the shed blood of Jesus on the cross is
the only means of salvation, by faith alone, not works or denomination.  Roman
Catholics (with very very few exceptions) believe they are saved (i.e.,
justified) by works and belonging to the “Holy Mother the Roman Catholic
Church.”  They themselves specify when asked, “No, I’m not  Christian, I’m
Catholic.””

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

As noble as his life and death were, in many ways, I recommend that we should be Acts 17:11 Bereans and compare what Bonhoeffer taught with the Bible.

I think the two most important questions to ask are, did Dietrich Bonhoeffer preach the Biblical Jesus? Did he proclaim the Gospel of the Bible?

Smorgasbord or the Bible?

Increasingly I hear professing Christians approach the search for truth as if at a smorgasbord. “I’ll take this and I’ll take that and I’ll not take this or that.” (“eclectic”)

In the 1980s I only heard the so-called New Agers talk like that.

They aren’t seeing life as a matter of eternal life or death and that Genesis through Revelation is the truth: Who is Jesus and what is the Gospel?

Super Heroes = pagan gods = Demons

Throughout history, on every continent, humans have worshipped created things rather than the Creator. They have worshipped the gods of the land; the gods of their mythologies; the gods of their imaginations.

The inspiration for these gods are demons who rebelled against the God of the Bible, who created everything.

The Pantheons of Greek and Roman and Norse gods and every other pantheon represent these demons.

Supernatural powers… super powers come from either of two sources: the miraculous power of our loving God or the power of Satan (whose power ultimately comes from God, as God allows, for a time, Satan to pursue his attempts to deceive and destroy).

The only created beings that exist are angels, demons, humans, and animals.

When mythologies or stories are created in the imaginations of men they must be judged against the reality of God’s creation and the truth of God’s word: Genesis to Revelation.

Super Heroes, when compared to reality and the truth of God’s word can only represent demons or demon possessed humans.

Jesus, alone, deserves our worship. He, alone, is our hope and our salvation. All power and glory should be ascribed to Him or derived from Him. All other power and glory is demonic.

“Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say. The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread. Observe Israel after the flesh: Are not those who eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar? What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything? Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons. Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?” 1 Corinthians 10:14-22

“They sacrificed to demons, not to God,
To gods they did not know,
To new gods, new arrivals
That your fathers did not fear.
Of the Rock who begot you, you are unmindful,
And have forgotten the God who fathered you.” Deuteronomy 32:17-18

“Then he appointed for himself priests for the high places, for the demons, and the calf idols which he had made.” 2 Chronicles 11:15-16

Christian Allegories?

Would it be right for a Christian to write an allegorical novel that portrayed the good guys as routinely being sexually immoral and that, within the story, it was considered alright, because it’s an allegory?

Many would call a novel, portraying such sexual immorality, pornography.

I believe that magic and the occult are at least as evil as sexual immorality. Marriage is a living metaphor for faithfulness between Jesus and His Bride. Sexual immorality is a living metaphor for spiritual adultery and idolatry. Magic and the occult are idolatry. Jesus said that if we think about a woman immorally we’ve committed adultery. I’m not sure how that applies to witchcraft. But should we be entertained by that which God condemns? Are we not influenced by what we see advocated? Is it right to advocate that white magic is ok? How many young people have travelled the path of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, Dungeons & Dragons, Society for Creative Anachronism, Wicca?

I support the freedom of a Christian to read what ever they want. It’s between them and the Lord. No one has the right to create a list of approved books or unapproved books. I’m raising the question if it’s right to portray magic as good in an occult fantasy story.
