The Truth Project – Twisted Scripture

The Truth Project expresses some profound truths from the word of God, but then, at strategic points the scriptures are twisted to turn our heavenly calling into an earthly agenda.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is replaced by the “World View”.

In the first Truth Project lesson, in the introduction by Del Tackett, there is a rich account of Isaiah 6 where Isaiah is called to be a prophet of God. Isaiah is quoted, “I am a man of unclean lips and I live among a people of unclean lips”. The seraph is said to have touched his lips with the hot coal. God says, “Whom shall I send?” And Isaiah is quoted in saying, “Here am I. Send me.” Del Tackett then says that this shows that God wants to turn us into a “World Changer”. But in context, that is not what Isaiah 6 is teaching. Nowhere in this section of scripture and nowhere in the New Testament is the church of Jesus Christ called to be “World Changers” or those who battle to take back our culture or those who pursue “Global Transformation”.

One example of how the Truth Project compromises the Gospel by yoking with other religions to battle for the culture is the inclusion in the twelfth lesson of “Father” or “Reverend” Robert Sirico, a Roman Catholic priest. Roman Catholicism teaches a false gospel of works.

In the eighth lesson, Del Tackett, promotes the idea that God has given us a drive for “significance”. This should be seen in the context of Focus on the Family’s decades long promotion of “self-esteem”. The Bible does not call us to cultivate any significance for self, rather we are called to die to self and follow Jesus.

In lesson 10, Del Tackett likens the memorials and murals in Washington, D.C., to the memorial stones that the children of Israel set up to remind the people of God of what the Lord has done. He refers to one mural in the Capitol depicting Christopher Columbus. Del Tackett tries to portray Columbus as a Biblical Christian and his voyages as Biblical missions. Research Columbus’ trips to the islands of the New World to find this most certainly was not the case. Del Tackett tries to portray Benjamin Franklin as a “religious” man. “Religious” does not mean born again through Jesus Christ. Research Benjamin Franklin to find that he was not a godly man and never claimed to be one who professes the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Del Tackett quotes 2 Chronicles 7:14 out of context just as the Reconstructionists and Dominionists have for the last 30 years. The message that is advocated is that if American Christians will do this, this, and this, God will make America great again. But God has never promised to make America great under any circumstances.

Of course, this verse was not written to Americans. It was written to the people of the ancient nation of Israel. To try to apply it to America is to take it out of context. This promise of God was not made to America. It was made to ancient Israel. It no more applies to us in America than to Noah in his time and country. Noah and his family did humble themselves, and sought God’s face, and turned from their wicked ways. God forgave their sins, but he did not heal their land. It was destined for judgment and destruction. America is destined for judgment and destruction as is every nation of this pagan world system.

It is a serious deception to quote the word of God and then twist it to turn our heavenly calling into an earthly agenda.

Who are we? What are we to be? What are we to do? Who shall lead us and how? How shall we relate to one another? What does the Bible say?

“…to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places, according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.” Ephesians 3:10-12

The Word of God is Amazing

Sometimes it seems like I’m just now learning the Bible after thirty-five years of being a Christian. The more I study the word of God the more amazing I realize it is. From Genesis to Revelation it is cohesive and coherent and interwoven with common themes and metaphors and forshadowings and types. The Old Testament is the foundation for the New and the New Testament interprets the Old.

Genesis to Revelation is about Jesus.

Abraham told Isaac, “God will provide the Lamb.” (See Genesis 22:8)

John the Baptist said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (See John 1:29)

Are you a new believer in Jesus Christ? Then I encourage you to read Genesis through Revelation as soon as possible. And continue reading and studying the Bible as part of your love relationship with Jesus. Abide in the Vine (John 15)

An Elder teaches about the Church

An introduction to a series on the Biblical View of Church. This message by Dave Jackson, and elder at Community Bible Church in Gig Harbor, Washington.

What is the Church?

Who are we? What are we to be? What are we to do? Who shall lead us and how? How shall we relate to one another? What does the Bible say?

C.S. Lewis and the World Religion

One of the many ways professing Evangelical Christians are being merged with the world religion is through celebrity gurus. Read about gurus in India to see how they are treated by their devotees. Within Evangelicalism there are gurus promoted by the powerful that command the uncritical following of most professing Christians. These celebrity gurus are beyond critique. If someone does point out unbiblical characteristics, their followers take it personally because guruism is a form of idolatry. There are serious reasons not to set up C.S. Lewis as an icon to be quoted frequently as if his writings were scripture. Among them are the use of his writings by the powerful of this world to popularize occult fanstasy and wizardry and magic among Christian young people, preparing them for the counterfeit miracles of the lawless one. What qualifies a person to partake of the Lord’s Supper?

Steve Phillips, returned missionary from west Africa, was asked this by a brother in Nigeria. Here is Brother Steve’s reply:

“Very simply it is this: A person must know someone before it is possible to remember him. If you don’t know Christ, you cannot remember Him. That person may participate in a religious ceremony without knowing and remembering Him; even Judas …did that. How do we know if someone knows Christ? We don’t. All we can do is accept one another on the basis of their profession of faith. “Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God” [Rom.15:7]. We need not and should not attempt to police brethren as to whether they are “qualified” to share in communion with us. We are not police and the only criteria we can offer would be man-made regulations. The judgment rendered for communion is personal, not corporate. “But a man must examine himself” [I Cor.11:28]. To create some type of “interview” with reputed “judges” within the church who then determine whether the newcomer is “worthy” to partake is sheer carnality. It is the product of a narrow self-righteous mind attempting to “guard” the “sanctity” of a religious ritual in the same way that Pharisees had multiplied regulations to keep men from “breaking” their Sabbath. You will find that those who practice this type of thing consider themselves to be the “remnant” – ones that ever so subtly congratulate themselves that they are, thankfully, unlike other men. The stench of this offends not only the church of God, but arises as a foul odor into the heavens. After saying, “let a man examine himself,” the next statement is: “and so let him eat” [I Cor.11:28]. Examine yourself and eat with us, brother. That is the message to any and all. If at some later time it is discovered that there is waywardness in the brother, fine, we deal with that appropriately then as the Lord directs in His Word. Baptism is customary in the NT and is spoken of as such. I know of nothing that would exclude a person from breaking bread to remember the Lord had he not been baptized. Water baptism is a fitting expression of spiritual reality, but is not the substance of that reality. “
